Walnut slab table. I bought an entire flitch of 3" thick walnut for this table. I am pretty good at reading the grain but I must say that I was blown away after the first coat of linseed oil. The grain in these slabs is incredible. It has a beautiful bee's wing figure that shimmers.
Natural edge after removing the bark.
After surfacing the slabs I noticed some bright spots. Upon closer inspection I determined that they were shotgun pellets. These have been locked inside the tree for the past 60 years or more. I had to leave them in the finished table. These tell a little about the history of the tree.

Walnut desk made from an old door. The legs are tapered bent laminations with through tenoned stretchers.
For most of my furniture commissions I will model the project using 3D CAD software. This allows me and the customer to fine tune the design before the first piece of wood is cut.

I recently had the opportunity to teach a class at Roy Underhill's Woodwrights School in Pittsboro. This is the project I designed for teaching "hoppered dovetails". Those compound angle dovetails are trickier than you would think.
